    The proportion of people aged 80 and over in the French population will double and the number of dependent elderly persons is expected to have risen by 2.3 million between 2010 and 2060. For those concerned and their families, the question is increasingly raised of how to deal with the consequent loss of autonomy. In 2001 a personalised ‘autonomy grant’ was created in France1 to encourage the development of support services and home care, as well as new intermediate forms of accommodation (day care, respite, etc).
