The Oxford Textbook of Palliative Medicine is now in its fourth edition and has recently become available in paperback. It is edited by some of the leaders in the field, and for this edition Geoffrey Hanks and Nathan Cherny are joined by Nicholas Christakis, Marie Fallon, Stein Kaasa, and Russell Portenoy for the comprehensive revision of this version bringing it up to date in this rapidly advancing discipline. There are over 200 contributing authors giving this text both multidisciplinary and international input. There is a real multinational feel for this book, with the authorship as well as the description of the international progress and challenges in the development and provision of specialised palliative medicine in the developed and developing world.
