Abstract

Background Continuous learning and development of staff is necessary for ensuring safe and high-quality care (Skills for Health. UK core skills training framework. [internet]). In a busy working environment, such learning and development can at times be experienced as an ‘add-on’ or a tick box exercise. As part of our commitment to learning we developed a tailored learning and development framework.

Aim This poster outlines the process and outcomes of developing a new learning and development framework.

Method The development process involved a collaborative approach. By engaging with staff across different disciplines and teams, we identified evolving needs within the organisation. Feedback from previous approaches and participation from team leads identified gaps and priorities. The framework encompasses a range of learning modalities, including face-to-face sessions, clinical simulations, and virtual modules. The year was divided into themes and all staff do the same learning over this period.

Results The framework started in January 2024, and feedback is ongoing. While seeking to ensure that staff are equipped with the necessary skills and knowledge to deliver high-quality person-centred care, the framework promotes a creative learning environment. All mandatory subjects were re-designed to be bespoke to the organisational policies and procedures and additional face-to-face sessions were included to complement and embed learning, creating a whole hospice approach.

Conclusion Initial results indicate positive feedback regarding the relevance, accessibility, and effectiveness of the new framework and its impact on fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement within the organisation.
