Abstract
Background This service improvement project supports the ‘Ambitions for Palliative and End of Life Care: A national framework for local action 2021–2026’ which states that all staff are prepared to care. Staff can only provide compassionate care when they are cared for themselves and they must be supported to sustain their compassion through education, so that they can remain resilient and use their empathy and skills. To this end three different stakeholders representing NHS Community Services, Hospice and Care Homes came together to develop a joint end of life education programme.
Aim(s) The aim of the End-of-Life Care Education Project is to provide a range of topics which are accessible, useful and well delivered to the health and social care workforce across the Integrated Care System.
Methods
The education will be mapped to the end of life care Core Skills Framework (Health Education England, Skills for Health, and Skill for Care. 2017)
The education will be delivered through a rolling programme of bite–size sessions delivered both face–to–face in a variety of settings and online to increase equitable access.
Training will be booked via a platform which is accessible to all 3 stakeholder groups.
Expert volunteer presenters will deliver the sessions.
Each session will be evaluated.
Results A range of topics were delivered across several different sites by expert clinicians. The training was accessible with good attendance from all 3 stakeholder groups. Participants evaluated that the training was useful, scoring high on whether it had improved their skills. Participants evaluated that the training was well delivered, scoring high on overall satisfaction and engagement.
Conclusions This training will provide a framework that will continue to be built on, providing education and support across a wide range of disciplines within the Integrated Care System.
