Abstract

Background The changing landscape of family engagement in healthcare highlights a significant shift towards collaborative partnerships between healthcare providers and families. Demelza embraced strategies to involve all family members in decision-making processes and quality improvement initiatives. The central component of this work lies in attentively receiving and responding to feedback that leads to meaningful change.

Aim Highlight the evolving role of family engagement within Demelza to demonstrate the cycle of collaborative connections and decision-making processes.

Method Creation of a service driven by stakeholder input, reviewing practices directly impacting families and offer opportunities for active participation in decision-making. Additionally, examine Demelza’s feedback mechanisms to capture and address diverse perspectives, ensuring an inclusive and accessible approach.

Results The results will present the challenges faced in implementing feedback from service users and the introduction of new initiatives. It will explore barriers such as communication gaps, organisational resistance, and resource constraints, highlighting how Demelza overcame these obstacles. Alongside addressing feedback through a ‘voices heard, changes made’ approach, the results showcase the introduction of innovative initiatives designed to foster greater collaboration and responsiveness. These initiatives include; improved communication channels, staff training, resource allocation strategies, and efforts to cultivate a culture of openness and receptivity.

Conclusion Prioritising family engagement within Demelza reflects the dynamic shift towards collaborative partnerships and inclusive practices in healthcare. By embracing strategies to involve family members in decision-making processes and quality improvement initiatives, Demelza has demonstrated a commitment to fostering meaningful change driven by attentive feedback. By addressing barriers to implementation of feedback-led change and acknowledging budget and resource constraints, Demelza has sought to empower child and family voices to drive positive change, whilst demonstrating Demelza’s commitment to promoting collaboration and responsiveness.
